Ronan Keating admits he saw a shrink after marriage split

Ronan Keating has revealed that he had counselling after indulging in an affair that ruined his marriage.

The Boyzone singer and estranged wife Yvonne, who have three children together - Jack, 13, Marie, 11, and Ali, 6 - split earlier this year after it was revealed in 2010 that Keating had an affair with a dancer.

Speaking on Piers Morgan's Life Stories TV Show, the 'Fires' star said that he sought help following the break of his 14 year marriage, admitting:

"My psychiatrist gave me a few reasons for why I possibly did what I did, but again they're excuses. So really you've just got to go, you made a decision, you've got a choice."

He added that he was "selfish" over the whole affair, with Keating admitting that he felt like he had "lost everything" in the split's aftermath. He said:

"The pain that I caused Yvonne has been devastating. I was incredibly selfish, totally ignored what could happen. I regret what I did. I've never been so frightened in my life as I was when it happened, I felt I'd lost everything because of what I had done. As a man, to realise that and take that on board is not good. At that time, it was horrible, it was frightening and it was horrible. I thought I'd lost it all."

The Irish singer continued: "It would be great if I had an excuse, but I don't. It was wrong, what I did. I made a choice and because of that choice there were devastating effects on people's lives. You have to somehow pick yourself up; every day is a new day. I deserved what I got, I didn't like it, but I deserved it."

Asked about his feelings when he discovered Yvonne had a new man — she has been snapped with cinematographer John Conroy, 44 — he said he was “happy”.

He said: “I was happy she was happy. I can never take away what I caused, but if you can see someone you love happy again then it eases something inside.”

But rekindling his marriage to Yvonne will NEVER be on the cards, he added.

“Too much has happened in our lives for that to happen. But we will always be great friends and great parents to our three kids.”
