Fashion designer says she used McDonald's salt for Britney Spears video shoot outfit

Fashion designer Nikki Lund has revealed that she was once forced into using salt from McDonald's for an outfit for Britney Spears.

The US talent, who runs fashion line Nikki Rich with guitarist Richie Sambora, told Trendboard NYC that she was once left short whilst working on a Spears video shoot.

She said: "I was trying to get hoodies dyed for this Britney Spears music video. She wanted a black hoodie and I was trying to get the right black. This is professional-level dye.

"I was so tired, my team was tired, it was four in the morning and we needed another dye and I realised we had run out of salt. You need salt to get the dye to work so it’s black [rather than purple or purple tinted]."

Lund added that she also fell short when working with Miley Cyrus, with another last minute trip needed.

She said: "We had to do a pomegranate looking colour for Miley once and I ran out of dye. When things get really busy you sometimes run out of supplies. In this case, we went into the fridge and we found beets.

"There I was, in the middle of night boiling beets so I could dye this piece of clothing with beet juice. It ended up being one of the most beautiful pieces I’ve ever made. Little things like that are always the most unexpected stories."
