Britney Spears has revealed that she is trying to make a "perfect" album.

The pop princess is currently working on the follow up to 2011's 'Femme Fatale' and excitement around its release is building.

Speaking on Twitter, Spears said that she thinks the record will is for her biggest fans - and as a result, she has to make the best album she possibly can. The 'Circus' star said:

"It's coming sooner than you think ;) But this album is for my diehard fans so it needs to be perfect!!!!"

The singer was tweeting in response to a trending topic on the social networking website made by fans that expressed their frustration at not hearing any new material.

Spears' last slice of fresh music was the track 'Ooh La La', which was recorded for the Smurfs 2 film.
