Britney Spears has likened will.i.am's musical approach to that of a scientist.

The two artists have teamed up numerous times in the past - including for the hit track 'Scream & Shout' - and that fruitful relationship has continued onto Spears' new record 'Britney Jean'.

Will.i.am acted as a co-producer on the album and the pop princess told Kiss FM that he brings an experimental approach to making music.

She said: "He's co-producer. He's so much fun to work with because his energy is just electric. He's like a little kid, a little genius."

Spears added: "When we get together we're just like 'let's put this down, let's put this down'. It's like a scientific experiment."

'Britney Jean' meanwhile will be released on December 3, with the record preceded by the single 'Work Bitch' in the UK on November 3.

Spears will then begin a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas from December 27.
