Cee Lo Green issues apology as he returns to Twitter following rape remarks

Cee Lo Green has returned to Twitter after making controversial comments about rape.

The singer deleted his account earlier this week after posting his thoughts about rape and what defines consent.

Green recently pleaded no contest to charges of giving a woman ecstasy in her drink in 2012, with Green getting three years probation and community service. A rape charge relating to the same incident had earlier been dropped.

The woman said she had no memory of the time between dining with Green and later waking up naked in the singer’s bed.

On Monday the singer wrote on Twitter before removing his account: "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!! If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! So WITH Implies consent."

Green has now returned to the social networking website, posting:

"I truly and deeply apologize for the comments attributed to me on Twitter. Those comments were idiotic, untrue and not what I believe."
