Cheryl Cole appears to have rubbished reports stating that she has signed up to appear on the next series of the X Factor.

The Geordie was a popular figure on the show's judging panel between 2008 and 2010.

Reports issued today (January 8) claimed that a deal has been thrashed out between Cole and Simon Cowell that would see the singer return to the shoe this year.

However, Cole appears to have shot down the speculation, saying on Twitter:

"Same rumours different day/year."

The Girls Aloud star has constantly been linked with returning to the show amid reports that its ratings have been poor.

The panel for the 2014 X Factor is still to be confirmed, but Gary Barlow has already confirmed that he won't be taking part.
