One Direction and Cher Lloyd success convinced Cheryl Cole to rejoin X Factor

The success of acts such as One Direction and Cher Lloyd was one of the reasons behind Cheryl Cole's return to the UK X Factor.

The singer was a popular fixture on the show's judging panel for three series between 2008 and 2010.

However, she is due to return this year alongside Simon Cowell and he told Bang Showbiz that the number of quality acts from the 2010 series encouraged Cole to return.

Cowell said: "You know why she came back, we were having a conversation at my house and we were talking about the talent we had that final year in 2010 - One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd, Matt Cardle, we just had great people, and we just suddenly thought we want to do it all over again.

"And that was the incentive to do it because there are still great people in this country left."

The 2010 series of the UK X Factor was ultimately won by Cardle, with Ferguson finishing runner-up. One Direction and Cher Lloyd were finalists.
