Cheryl's husband wins damages over magazine wedding report

Jean Bernard Fernandez-Versini, the husband of singer and X Factor judge Cheryl, has won damages over a British magazine’s reporting on the pair’s wedding earlier this year.

Following the couple’s wedding ceremony in July, Fernandez-Versini took legal action for invasion of privacy and breach of the Data Protection Act 1998 against Bauer Media’s Heat magazine.

Heat had published an article in August which, according to Jean Bernard’s solicitor, had caused him distress as he had been keen to avoid the media and also contained inaccurate information that had not been cleared with him ahead of going to print.

Particular details of Heat’s reporting that Mr. Fernandez-Versini objected to were the magazine’s claims that his wife had purchased her own wedding ring and that her mother was set to start living with the newlyweds.

Heat magazine’s publisher, Bauer, has now conceded that the four-page magazine story was an intrusion of the French businessman’s privacy and have agreed to pay him damages and will also contribute to his legal fees.
