Cheryl has revealed her new-found respect for Simon Cowell after his mother died.

The X Factor mogul was put in mourning recently when his 89-year-old mum Julie passed away.

Speaking to the Sunday People, Cheryl - who is lining up alongside Cowell on this year's X Factor - praised the Syco man's strength in tough times.

She said: "I don't know how he is coping.

"I've always admired his strength and tenacity but now I have a whole new level of respect for him. He has that British stiff upper lip."

A number of X Factor auditions were postponed as a result of the death.
