Cheryl Fernandez-Versini: 'Young women don't need loads of make-up'

Hitmaker and 'X Factor' judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has revealed that leaving the house without make-up on is liberating and she wishes other young women would try the bare-faced look more often.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan magazine, the beauty confessed that she only became confident stepping out bare-faced after doing it a number of times because it is very daunting: "I am comfortable with no makeup on. I think the more experience you have with it the more comfortable you become."

"I've got a lot of nieces and nephews so I remember that hormone changes can affect your skin so if you might not want to go out makeup-free (although I'd advise it as it allows your skin to breathe) I would say go for more of a light coverage like a tinted moisturiser. A lot of younger women seem to think they need to put loads and loads of makeup on but really it should be the opposite."

The songstress went onto add that her hair is something she likes to mix up too because it can really change how you look and is a fun way to experiment with style: "I've always played with the length of my hair and I'm very spontaneous. People tend to think that I plan these things but I don't, there might be a day when I think 'do you know what? Cut it off, I've had enough!' - so [my bob] was one of those. I hadn't had it that short for so many years it was actually nice."
