Chris Brown on Jay Z’s criminal past: “nobody brings it up”

Chris Brown has commented on Jay Z’s past run-ins with the law, saying that he thinks Jay Z “gets a pass”.

The remarks were made in an interview with JET Magazine who will be featuring Brown on the cover of their October 14th issue. Brown mused on his own indiscretions – including assaulting his ex girlfriend Rihanna in 2009 – saying that he has accepted responsibility and paid the price for his actions, but laments his continuing negative press. Yet, says Brown, Jay Z’s past involving violence and drugs seems to be widely overlooked.

“No disrespect, because I’m a fan,” said Chris, “but nobody brings up the fact that Jay Z stabbed somebody and sold drugs. He gets a pass.”

In 1999 Jay Z allegedly stabbed record producer Lance ‘Un’ Rivera at a party.  The rapper pleaded guilty to the charge in 2001 and was sentenced to three years probation. But long before that Jay Z was also a drug dealer from the age of 13, a fact he confessed in a 2009 interview with Oprah.

Despite his comments, Brown believes that he will eventually escape his past.

“You have to go through the struggle before you can get to the good part,” he says. “I don’t try to lash out at people, or be as mad or impulsive as I used to be.”
