Chris Brown: 'If I could go back in time, I'd tell myself to pay more attention'

R&B sensation Chris Brown has revealed the advice he would give his younger self if he had the opportunity to do that.

Speaking to Britain's The Guardian newspaper, the 'Don't Wake Me Up' superstar confessed that he would tell himself to be more aware of what's going on around him: "Pay attention to details, details, details. I'm 24 now, so I'm making sure I'm on top of it, but back then I was just, like, whatever we're doing, I'm just glad to be here, you know?"

Brown opened up about the Rihanna incident of 2009, in which he assaulted her and became famous for all the wrong reasons, and said that it was a huge slap in the face where his reputation and career were concerned: "Probably the biggest wake-up call for me. I had to stop acting like a little teenager, a crazy, wild young guy."

He added that despite that one really awful event, his romantic past is not violent at all so he won't allow that period to define him: "You can talk with all my girls that I did mess with before, and it's never been a violent history. But at the same time, I learned from it, and it was almost like… I wouldn't say it happened for a reason, but it was something to trigger my mind to be more of a mature adult. To handle myself in situations, don't throw tantrums, don't be a baby about it."
