Coldplay hint at three-year hiatus

Coldplay have suggested that they're about to go into hibernation for the next three years.

The British group have been busy touring the world with their 2011 album 'Mylo Xyloto' and it seems that they will temporarily hang up their books when they have finished promoting the record.

Speaking at a show in Brisbane this week (November 21), Coldplay mainman suggested that the group will stop playing "big shows" for the next few years.

He said: "This is the last big show for three years or so. I don't want to stop."

They're not done just yet, however, with the band recently confirming a batch of shows in the US in December, including a gig with Jay-Z on New Year's Eve.

Coldplay hint at album name

Coldplay's Chris Martin has hinted that the band already have a name for their upcoming album.

The award-winning British group - comprising Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland and Will Champion - plan to release a sixth studio album in 2015 to follow-on from their most recent record Mylo Xyloto.

Speaking on Australian radio show Kyle and Jackie O, Martin revealed that the group may have already named their next offering.

He said: "The next one we're releasing is much easier to pronounce."

Martin was then asked the title of the next record, but replied: "I can't tell you that!" before turning to bandmate Buckland and asking: "Can I give a hint?"

Guitarist Buckland was quick to shoot Martin's suggestion down.

Martin also talked about the festive season, and revealed he often feels guilty when he forgets to buy his bandmates gifts for Christmas.

He laughed: “Will and Guy are very, very good and they always give us lovely presents and Jonny and I are not very good. It’s kind of sad! It’s hard to get presents for each other! But we do buy each other stuff, just not always for birthdays and Christmas. Like I might buy something for Guy tomorrow if I see something I think he’d like.”

Coldplay: 'Playing live is when our lives and our fans' lives collide'

Brit rockers Coldplay have spoken about the importance of playing live concerts and explained that it gives them the opportunity to become one with their fans.

Speaking in a clip taken from Coldplay's brand new 'Live 2012' DVD, Chris Martin can be heard saying that performing to a present audience connects them and nothing else matters:

"When the lights go down, that's 30,000 peoples lives colliding. Everyone there working is working for that moment, everyone watching is watching for that moment. It's when you're all in agreement about what you're all doing so it's a wonderful feeling of togetherness and possibility."

The 'Fix You' singer added that the band don't care about being cool, their only concern is with bringing their music to their fans and giving them a night to remember with every gig:

"Whilst it might not be perceived to be really enthused when people show up to hear your music but we don't give a f**k, we really love that. It's exciting when you're 15 and you throw a house party and people come so imagine that on a daily basis with 20,000 people."

Brit rockers Coldplay have announced that their forthcoming live DVD will be shown in cinemas around the world for just one night to mark its release.

'Coldplay Live 2012' was directed by Paul Dugdale and includes concert footage from the band's performances in Paris, Montreal and at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival, and is set to hit theatres globally on November 13.

Fans can head to coldplay.com/cinema to see where their nearest locations are. Premium television network EPIX will also premiere 'Coldplay Live 2012' on November 17, before it's released on CD/DVD, Blu-ray/CD and digitally two days later on November 19.

In a statement, frontman Chris Martin explained: "The Mylo Xyloto tour has been the most fun we've ever had as a band. It's felt very uplifting right from the start; partly because we are proud of the music, the LED wristbands, the pyrotechnics, the lasers and all of that stuff, but mainly because of the amazing audiences that we've been playing for."

Coldplay announce charity art exhibition

Coldplay are set to hold an exhibition of 'Mylo Xyloto' themed artwork.

The British quartet announced today (October 16) that they will hold a special exhibition in London between November 29 and December 2.

It will take place at the Proud Galleries in Camden and will feature, amongst other items, three paintings by the band and the graffiti which was used as the artwork for their 2011 album 'Mylo Xyloto'.

All of the items will go on sale and proceeds will be donated to children's charity Kids Company, who have also organised for youths to help contribute a painted wall to the exhibition.

Speaking about the exhibition, Coldplay mainman Chris Martin said: "Kids Company is a phenomenal organisation that is very close to our hearts. While we were making the last album we did quite a lot of painting with our friend Paris. We built a special wall in our studio and sprayed it, wrote on it and threw things at it until it eventually became the artwork for Mylo Xyloto. This exhibition will be the first time that the wall has appeared in public."

Kids Company founder/CEO Camila Batmanghelidjh added: "The support Coldplay have given us over the years has been amazing. Art plays a major role in Kids Company’s work with vulnerable children: kids who have experienced trauma often find it easier to express themselves using art materials rather than words. Our recent award-winning exhibition in partnership with the Royal Academy demonstrated this very powerfully and poignantly."

Coldplay last night attended the premiere of the new British film they helped to fund.

Directed by Mat Whitecross, who has shot several Coldplay videos including recent single 'Paradise,' Spike Island was screened for the first time last night at the BFI London Film Festival.

Chris Martin revealed that “we had great faith that he’d pull it off” before joking about how much the band had invested in the film, due for release in April 2013:

"12 million pounds. I didn't see evidence of that anywhere. They said it was going to have robots. We've been shafted again.”

Based on an unsigned band’s attempts to get tickets for The Stone Roses’ famous 1990 Widnes gig, Spike Island stars Shameless’ Elliott Tittensor, Hollyoaks’ Nico Mirallegro and Games Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke.

The full video will drop on October 8 and the preview that has been unveiled is fully animated with a futuristic-looking twist. It also appears to be somewhat conceptual as there are several captions that indicate characters' names, such as Major Minus.

Coldplay also told their followers that they've played a staggering 101 concerts so far on their 'Mylo Xyloto' tour and admitted that Rihanna's new single, 'Diamonds', is fast becoming one of their new favourite songs.

The CD was created back in the October of 1982 and now, on its thirtieth anniversary, British rockers Coldplay have been named as the band who have shifted the most compact discs of all time.

The 'Paradise' superstars, fronted by Chris Martin, have sold a phenomenal 7.8 million CDs over the years thanks to their popular albums including 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' and 'X&Y', and this figure puts them in the No.1 position.

In second place is Robbie Williams with 6.9 million CDs sold after leaving Take That and pursuing his solo career, which has since gone from strength to strength.

The list, compiled by The Official Charts Company, puts 'White Flag' songstress Dido in third with 5.9 million and classic pop favourites ABBA in fourth with 3.7 million CDs sold as a direct result of their 1992 singles compilation release, 'Gold'.

Adele scored 3.6 million and Oasis racked up 3.4 million with their popular record, 'What’s The Story Morning Glory', putting them in sixth place.

Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that ABBA's 'Gold' is the only CD to ever sell more than four million copies in the UK.

The band's lead singer, Chris Martin, was joined by the Bajan beauty to sing their collaboration 'Princess of China'. Rihanna arrived on a mechanical steamboat.

Some 120 child volunteers from east London took part in tonight's show, with disabled aerial performers from Circus Scape and The British Paraorchestra.

The Olympic Flame was extinguished during the grand finale which featured Coldplay, Rihanna and Jay-Z, who rapped over Coldplay's 'Paradise'.

Chris Martin from Coldplay teased a few details about his band's upcoming set at the London 2012 Paralympic Closing Ceremony during a radio interview this afternoon.

Speaking to Radio 1's Greg James today, he explained that there will be some guests joining them onstage although he didn't confirm if the collaborators would be the heavily rumoured Jay-Z and Rihanna:

"We're in rehearsals in the biggest car park in the world where there's a fake Olympic stadium thing. I'm not sure what I can say. We're gonna play some of our songs, then we have a couple of friends coming out with us. There's lots of amazing dancers and acrobats."

When asked about the ambiguous nature of his replies, Martin exclaimed: "This is like a police inquiry! I can't say much."

A tweet was posted earlier today (September 7) from the group's official Twitter page that was accompanied by a photograph of Martin (pictured below) in rehearsals for the event and the caption read: "Chris up high for final Paralympic rehearsals."

The Paralympic Closing Ceremony is set to take place on September 11.

35-year-old Chris Martin admitted that he was once told a story of how a horse owner was struggling to get his animal to reproduce so he played the track aloud and it did wonders for the situation:

"We heard that there was a guy who couldn't get his horse to breed properly. He played 'Fix You' and sex took place. Now he has the most expensive stud farm in Britain."

Martin also opened up about being a musician with young children and joked that his kids, Apple and Moses, are a great platform to test out new material because if they like the music they will sing along to it all day:

"Kids are very honest - if they start singing a song it's because they like it. It's a great gauge. When we played Wembley Stadium I was like, 'Wow, now we are big rock stars', but next morning the kids were saying to me, 'Get me some pancakes.'"
