Coldplay's Chris Martin tests new music on his kids first

Coldplay mainman Chris Martin has revealed that he often tries out his music on his children first because they are the most honest.

Martin has two children with wife Gwyneth Paltrow - Apple, 8, and Moses, 6 - and it seems that they are the envy of Coldplay fans across the world as they get first listen on his music.

The 'Mylo Xyloto' star said that his children are a "great gauge" in terms on how effective his songs are. He said:

"Kids are very honest - if they start singing a song it's because they like it. It's a great gauge."

Martin added that his two children often bring him back down to earth, going from stadium rock supremacy to pancakes for breakfast with the family the next day. He added:

"When we played Wembley Stadium I was like, 'Wow, now we are big rock stars', but next morning the kids were saying, 'Get me some pancakes'."

Coldplay's Chris Martin blames the Olympics for fluffed lyrics

Chris Martin jokingly blamed the Olympics for making him forget the words at a recent concert in America.

Coldplay were performing in Boston when Martin took to the piano for the opening of their track 'Warning Sign'.

However, the singer fluffed his words and began to play random notes on the piano as the crowd cheered.

He then said: "I was thinking about the Olympics. I was distracted. I was not in the breakup frame of mind and I should have been. I'm going to get back into it. I'm going to stop thinking about pole vault, things like that, and I'm going to focus back in on the song. So is everybody else."

Martin continued: "It's a big deal, man. We've never had the Olympics in our lifetime so you can't blame a band for thinking about it every once in a while - 'God, the f**king Olympics are happening in London!'. What's more important is the best concert in the world is happening right here, right now, so we'd better carry on. F**k the Olympics. Let's have a f**king great time in Boston."

Chris Martin, who will perform with Coldplay at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic games, then played the opening bars of the song again, before stopping and telling the crowd: "Please don't tweet that I said, 'F**k the Olympics'. I didn't mean that. Please don't turn it into a news story, whatever you do, because we're going to play the end of it. Don't tweet that either! S**t, I'm in a big mess now."

Chris Martin reveals stage fright: "I wanted to leave the stage"

Coldplay's frontman has opened up about his experience of being front and centre when his band performs live and admitted that he still suffers from nerves.

Speaking to Le Project Imagine, Chris Martin explained that there was one concert in particular that took place in Birmingham and it had an unexpected effect on him, almost causing him to cut the gig short:

"Normally I have this self-confidence and stuff and it just left like a bird leaving. I wanted to leave the stage."

He revealed that looking to his bandmates for support helped him overcome the sudden bout of stage fright, adding:

"I turned around to tell Will and then I realised – whenever I feel insecure on stage – I always turn around to look at our drummer Will, who's very serious, he looks very serious on stage. But he really is like a rock."

"So I looked around to him and said 'I can't do it, I've got to leave' and he gave me this look – which I can't really put into words so well. But he has this way of looking at me like, it gives me this positive energy, and he does it a lot I realised."

Coldplay to release 'Mylo Xyloto' comic series

Coldplay have revealed that they are set to release a series of comic books.

In a post on their official website, the band said that they came up with the idea of a character called Mylo Xyloto three years ago.

Xyloto eventually become the "backdrop" to their 2011 album of the same name - but they are reverting back to the original idea to create a six-part comic series. They said:

"Three years ago we had an idea with our friend Mark Osborne about a character called Mylo Xyloto - 'xylo' as in xylophone, 'to' as in toe. Gradually Mylo's story and universe came together and this ended up providing the backdrop for the album and tour. Now we're proud to announce that early next year the story is going to come out as a six-part comic. We hope you like it. It was fun making it."

Mark Osborne, who collaborated on the project and is the director of films such as Kung Fu-Panda, said:

"The whole band has been approving things all along, especially at the stage when I was developing the visual look of the universe and the 'bible' for the project. The real serious story collaboration on the movie started with just me and Chris, with him at a piano sometimes (which was f****** crazy cool) and with both of us writing and sketching ideas out."

The first issue of the comic will be unveiled at the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con International event in July and the following issues will be available from February 2013.

Coldplay use front row seats as treats for unsuspecting gig-goers

British rockers Coldplay have revealed that the front row seats at many of their concerts are reserved for "giddy" fans and are given to them as a reward for their support.

The 'Paradise' superstars' roadie, known as Roadie 42, recently posted a message on their official blog about the dynamic of different audiences and explained that a lot of the time Coldplay don't sell tickets for the best seats in the house because they give them away to people sat further away from the stage on the night:

"It came about after struggling with shows where the seats closest to the stage were often full of just 'the highest bidders' and not necessarily the most enthusiastic fans. In European standing shows, the front rows are the kids who've been outside the venue since daybreak and who've sprinted in to get the pole position. Usually by the time the opening acts have finished they're at fever pitch with excitement."

"In contrast, folks who'd paid astronomical sums for the tickets could often just sit with an arms folded sense of entitlement, emoting 'Come on then, entertain me, have you any idea how much I paid for this?' So the band don't sell the tickets to the front few rows anymore."

"Instead, various crew members are sent out to scan the highest, furthest seats to find folks who look genuinely excited and giddy to be seeing the band. They're then given tickets to the front row."

He added that sitting in the very front row really is an unforgettable experience and being given access to the band at such close range is a fantastic treat for a sincere fan:

"For them, it's a Willy Wonka golden ticket. For the band, it's guaranteed energy from the folks closest to them. It genuinely does make the shows better. We've all said it many times. How good a show is, is largely to do with how good the audience are. It's what fuels the whole thing.”

Coldplay reveal they still get booed, but admit they can't please everyone

'Princess Of China' superstars Coldplay have admitted that while they've reached the dizzying heights of international fame, they still get booed.

In a new interview with the Sydney Herald, the British rockers explained that it's impossible to please everyone so they try not to let negativity affect their career as a band or attitudes as individuals:

"You can very easily become infected by the minority negative opinion. I was talking to my dad about Manchester United - the most popular football team in the world - and when they show up at West Ham they get booed. I was thinking, 'Well, it's the same for us'."

"When everybody is singing Paradise at the moment it makes me feel so alive and happy. There comes a point where you just accept that whatever you do, someone will like or hate it, so it's extremely liberating."

Frontman Chris Martin added that he's incredibly proud of his 12-year run with the group and wouldn't change a thing:

"We are incredibly blessed that we are - 12 years in - allowed to make whatever we want to make. That's extraordinary. Even in the film world you can't do that. Only a few people can do that."

Coldplay reveal admiration for Leona Lewis

Brit sensations Coldplay have previously opened up about other contemporary artists they like, but have now revealed the name of one British artist they have a lot of respect for.

The 'Paradise' rockers recently recruited Bajan beauty Rihanna for a collaboration on 'Princess Of China' and explained that if they were younger they might have considered a duet with Canadian superstar Justin Bieber, but have now admitted that Leona Lewis is someone they think has a fantastic talent.

In a new interview with CFM Radio, drummer Will Champion confessed that Lewis has an "amazing" gift and even praised her cover of Snow Patrol's 'Run':

"[Leona Lewis] is brilliant, I think. Amazing voice. She did a fantastic cover of the Snow Patrol song ['Run'], it was wonderful."

Referring to their joint project with Rihanna, Champion added that the band were initially unsure if it was a good idea as they didn't know how if would affect their status and sound:

"We questioned whether we should have anyone sing on our album because we hadn't done it before, is it cool to do that? Or is it cool to get somebody who's got such a huge profile to be the other half of the duet? Or should we get somebody that has a great voice that is completely unknown?"

"We all love Rihanna and we came to the decision that if we are going to get someone to come and sing on it, it should be the best person and she's obviously an incredible artist. She was the original intention for the female part, so it just had to be her really!"

British rock superstars Coldplay have revealed how much it costs them to have their famed flashing wristbands on each night of their current tour.

In a new interview with Bauer Radio, the band's guitarist Jonny Buckland explains that while the accessories are inexpensive individually, to provide a stadium full of people with them is incredibly pricey:

"Every night I think it’s about £400,000! It looks amazing, it just makes everyone have a great time, most of all us and it just feels so magical…Even if you don’t like our music now, I would say come to the show just to see that – wear earplugs, bring a book and when the lights come on have a look!"

Buckland added that the idea was presented to them by a festival goer at Glastonbury several years ago and they never looked back:

"[He] approached our fifth member, Phil and said ‘I’ve got this great idea, I’ve invented these wristbands’. We said, ‘that sounds like the best idea ever, and we love it’ and we’re so grateful for it.”

Coldplay will perform at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Paralympic Games on September 9 and frontman Chris Martin added that they're "honoured" to be involved:

"We were so honoured to be asked, we got asked like a year ago so that’s been planned for a long time. We are really getting into the nuts and the bolts of it at the moment and its just such an honour to be part of.”

“Rihanna was top of our list of collaborators, and we’ve done that. She was lovely — she was cool. We’d work with anyone who wanted to work with us.

The promo, which is filmed in the style of a classic kung-fu film trailer, was originally scheduled to debut tomorrow, but was released a day earlier after a leaked version surfaced online late last night.

The visually-stunning clip sees Rihanna dressed as a 'gangsta goth geisha' and frontman Chris Martin duelling with ninjas before the pair engage in a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon-inspired battle.

Martin had previously told MTV News that Rihanna’s guest appearance was his highlight of their recent fifth studio album, 'Mylo Xyloto':

"Her bit on our record is my favourite bit. When the song came out, it sort of asked for her to be on it. And I think at this point, we have nothing to lose, and so we've been trying some new things and trying to break down the perceived boundaries between different types of music."

Frontman Chris Martin, whose band will take to the stage for the event at Stratford’s Olympic Stadium on Sunday September 9th, admitted he was overjoyed at being asked to take part:

"Being asked to play at the closing celebrations for the Paralympic athletes in London is a great honour for us.

"It will be a spectacular closing ceremony for the athletes and spectators in the stadium and everyone watching around the world and we're so happy to be involved.

"It will be one of the biggest nights in our lives and we're very excited to try and create a performance for the last night of the Games that will close London 2012 in style."

International Paralympic Committee President Sir Philip Craven also expressed his delight at the band’s appearance at the ceremony, which has been dubbed the Festival of Flame:

"Athletes are delivering record breaking performances on a regular basis and ticket sales are the best yet, so far out from the Games.

"Add Coldplay into that mix and I think the ingredients for the best ever Games are coming together."
