Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' to become UK's fastest selling album of the year

Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' is odds-on to become the UK's quickest selling album of 2014 so far.

The British group released the record on Monday (May 19) and the Official Charts Company have confirmed that it sold a massive 44,000 copies in its first day alone.

This trumps this year's current fastest selling album - Paolo Nutini's 'Caustic Love' - which shifted 44,000 units in its first day.

The Scottish singer sold 109,000 over the course of the album's first week, meaning that Coldplay are set to beat the record.

'Ghost Stories' features the lead single 'Magic' as well as tracks such as 'Midnight' and 'A Sky Full of Stars'.

Chairman of Parlophone and Warner Bros. Records UK Miles Leonard meanwhile commented: "This is another incredible album from a band at the top of their game. There is always huge anticipation ahead of a new Coldplay release so we wanted to be innovative and creative to make sure their fans all over the world are as excited about 'Ghost Stories' as we are. We couldn’t be happier with the early response we’re seeing."
