Coldplay have been confirmed as the opening act for this year's Capital FM Jingle Bell Ball.

The indie group were recently announced to appear at the O2 Arena event in London on December 5.

However, it has been revealed that Chris Martin and co. will be the first act on stage.

The group are used to topping bills at events like the massive Glastonbury Festival.

Coldplay meanwhile recently announced a series of UK stadium shows.

The group will play in cities such as London, Glasgow and Manchester in the summer.

The shows come in promotion of their forthcoming new record 'A Head Full of Dreams'.

The album is due to land on Friday (December 4) and it features cameos from everyone from Beyoncé and Gwyneth Paltrow to US President Barack Obama.
