Coldplay to receive Godlike Genius gong at NME Awards

Coldplay have been confirmed as the recipient of this year's NME's annual Godlike Genius honour.

The band will receive the prize at the NME Awards at London's O2 Academy Brixton on February 17.

In reaction, mainman Chris Martin thanked the magazine for their support.

He said: "It's a huge honour and it means everything to us, as Coldplay would be nothing without the NME.

"Appearing in the magazine for the first time in 1998 - in the smallest font - was the biggest thing that ever happened to us, and their love and support changed our world. Thank you so much NME."

Coldplay will also close the ceremony with a performance.

The band released their seventh studio album 'A Head Full of Dreams' in December.

Previous Godlike Genius winners meanwhile include last year's recipient Suede, Dave Grohl and Johnny Marr.
