Song of the year award for Coldplay

Coldplay walked away with the 'Song of the Year' award at the 30th Annual ASCAP Awards in London last night (October 13), collecting the award for their song ‘Viva La Vida’.

Singer-songwriters Chris Martin, Will Champion, Johnny Buckland and Guy Berryman, took home the award along with another accolade for ‘Songwriters of the Year’.

The song is taken from the album of the same name, ‘Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends’, with the LP selling 11 million copies – their most successful album to date. Debuting at number one in over 30 countries, the album also saw the British band secure their first number one on single on both sides of the Atlantic with ‘Viva La Vida’.

Coldplay are currently back in the studio recording their follow-up album with Viva producers Brian Eno and Markus Dravs.

Other songwriters awarded on the night were Paul McCartney for ‘Come Together’, U2 for ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’, and Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart for ‘Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)’.
