Coldplay headlined Radio 1's Big Weekend in their home county of Devon last night (May 29) and sang a version of Prince's 'Red Beret'.

Introducing the song, Chris Martin told the crowd:

"What a treat it is to come back home to the most beautiful place of the world... And if you can't go home, where can you go?"

"Now we're going to play a song in tribute to somebody, and I would like to send this out to my mum and dad who, without becoming too graphic, became enamoured with each other about 400 meters behind you over there.

"As as a result of that I was born, because knowing my mum and and dad Exeter City probably won the game that day and Strongbow was 2 for 1 at Kwik Save, and maybe just maybe Prince was on the radio that day, and this is going out to my mum and dad and Prince."

Coldplay then played a stripped down version of Prince's 'Rasberry Beret' with Martin at the piano.
