The group, who have now unveiled an exciting 'Princess of China' video featuring collaborator Rihanna, will take the stage on the popular televised talent contest next week and tweeted the news to their followers earlier this afternoon:

"Coldplay will perform two songs on @AmericanIdol on 3 May. We have 100 tickets to give away to the recording."

The 'Fix You' hitmakers are also offering fans the chance to win tickets for the performance and have posted information about the giveaway on their official website:

"We have 50 pairs of tickets to give away to watch the recording of Coldplay's performance. If you'd like to win a pair, click here to enter our contest, before 9am on Monday, 30 April."
