Coldplay named biggest seller of physical CDs

The CD was created back in the October of 1982 and now, on its thirtieth anniversary, British rockers Coldplay have been named as the band who have shifted the most compact discs of all time.

The 'Paradise' superstars, fronted by Chris Martin, have sold a phenomenal 7.8 million CDs over the years thanks to their popular albums including 'A Rush Of Blood To The Head' and 'X&Y', and this figure puts them in the No.1 position.

In second place is Robbie Williams with 6.9 million CDs sold after leaving Take That and pursuing his solo career, which has since gone from strength to strength.

The list, compiled by The Official Charts Company, puts 'White Flag' songstress Dido in third with 5.9 million and classic pop favourites ABBA in fourth with 3.7 million CDs sold as a direct result of their 1992 singles compilation release, 'Gold'.

Adele scored 3.6 million and Oasis racked up 3.4 million with their popular record, 'What’s The Story Morning Glory', putting them in sixth place.

Meanwhile, it has also been confirmed that ABBA's 'Gold' is the only CD to ever sell more than four million copies in the UK.
