Isle of Wight promoter: 'David Bowie has retired from touring'

Isle of Wight Festival promoter David Giddings says David Bowie will never tour again.

The singer and musician has cut an enigmatic figure in the last decade or two, but he surprised fans in 2013 with the release of his first album in a decade.

While no tour came in support of 'The Next Day', fans have remained optimistic that Bowie may return to the stage.

However, Isle of Wight Festival promoter David Giddings said in an interview with Music Week that he was told by the singer that he has retired from touring.

He said: "David is one of the best artists I’ve ever worked with. But every time I see him now, before I even speak to him, he goes, 'I’m not touring' and I say, 'I’m not asking'.

"He has decided to retire and, like Phil Collins, you can’t demand these people go out there again and again and again. I’m really pleased and proud that the last show he ever did in the UK was the 2004 Isle Of Wight Festival."

Bowie had heart surgery in 2004 after a performance at a festival in the German town of Scheessel and hasn't toured since.

The singer meanwhile recently created the theme tune for new TV crime series The Last Panthers.

It is the first time the Brit has made music for film or television in twenty years.
