David Bowie maintains hold over UK albums chart

David Bowie has kept his place at No.1 on the UK albums chart.

The musician released his 25th studio record 'Blackstar' on January 8, just two days before passing away aged 69 from cancer.

The album immediately reached No.1 in the UK and the Official Charts Company confirmed today (January 22) it is still ruling the roost.

The album has sold 81,000 combined units in the last seven days.

Bowie's 2002 greatest hits collection 'Best of Bowie is No.3, while 'Hunky Dory' is up two places to No.12.

Elsewhere in the top five, Adele's '25' is up one place to No.2, with Panic at the Disco's 'Death of a Bachelor' debuting at No.4.

Rounding off the top five this week is Justin Bieber's 'Purpose'.

Jack Savoretti’s 'Written In Scars' is up to No.7, while The Temperance Movement are a new entry at No.19 with 'White Bear'.

Eagles’ 'The Complete Greatest Hits' meanwhile rises to No.29 following the death of founder Glenn Frey.
