$30m made in first round of David Bowie's art collection auction at Sotheby's

The late David Bowie's art collection was sold at Sotheby's auction house in London yesterday and the most expensive item went for almost $9 million (£7.1 million).

The piece in question was a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat named Air Power, and another piece by the same artist was sold for $3 million (£2.4 million). The pieces in the first round of the auctions sold for an incredible $30 million (£24 million).

Back in June, a clipping of the music icon's hair sold for $18,000 (or £13,700) when it went under the hammer at Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles.
