David Bowie statue to be erected where Ziggy Stardust was launchedA bronze statue of David Bowie will be erected in the town where the musician debuted his Ziggy Stardust persona after a crowdfunding campaign reached its target. Over 650 people donated money to have the memorial erected in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, with more than £100,000 pledged by fans. Bowie performed at the town's Friars music venue in the early 1970s. Campaigner David Stopps commented on the project: "We are very grateful to everybody. It's been a Biblical 40 days. The bottom line now is that the statue will happen." Bowie's booking agent John Giddings, who is the promoter for the Isle of Wight Festival, put £5,000 towards the statue. Nearly a third of donations were from outside the UK. Bowie passed away in January aged 69 after a secret battle with cancer. He died just days after releasing his 25th album 'Blackstar'. Follow us: @Pressparty on Twitter / Pressparty on Facebook.
