It doesn’t seem five minutes since Adele, Ed Sheeran and Blur picked up BRIT Awards and showed the world that UK music is the best there is, but it’s time for this year’s celebration. The O2 London has been a hive of activity over the past three days, with 12,000sq metres of carpet laid, 35km of cables run and 1,000 people working back stage to make sure the BRIT Awards 2013 is the best yet.

It takes 60 chefs 2,000 hours to prepare the 1.5 tonnes of potatoes, 180 kgs of root vegetables and tonne of beef fillet that the go into the 4,000 meals served on the night. That’s not to mention the 90,000 jelly beans and 250 chocolate skulls that are required for the official after party.

The BRITs are the most prestigious event on the UK music calendar, marking the culmination of talent, success and spectacular performances. The 2013 vintage will see some of the biggest names in music fight it out for the much-coveted statuette, this year designed by Damien Hirst, following in the footsteps of Vivenne Westwood and Sir Peter Blake who had previously redesigned the award. Performers on the night will be the cream of homegrown talent Muse, Robbie Williams, One Direction, Ben Howard, Emeli Sandé and Mumford & Sons, joined by US stars Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake.

This year’s performances will be available to download after the Awards on iTunes with all proceeds for the first month going to War Child, recipients of the new Special Recognition Award.

Proving music isn’t all about what happens in front of camera, their prize honours their 25 years of life-changing work in war-torn areas such as Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq.

The BRITs 2013 is broadcast exclusively live at 8pm on ITV with James Corden returning as host. This will be his third consecutive year as ringmaster, his fourth overall.  Before and after the ceremony Laura Whitmore and Rizzle Kicks will be presenting backstage action on ITV2.

The BRIT Awards 2013 with MasterCard announced the full list of nominations on January 10th at the Savoy Hotel, London.  Mumford & Sons, Alt-J and singer songwriter Emeli Sandé led the way with three nominations each.
