Ozzy speaks of first No.1 album in 43 years

Black Sabbath make UK chart history

scoring their first no.1 album in 43 years

Black Sabbath’s new album ‘13’, their first studio album in 35 years featuring original members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, has gone straight to No.1 in the UK charts, scoring the band their first UK No.1 album in 43 years - a new UK chart record for the longest gap between no.1 albums (overtaking Rod Stewart who set a similar record last month with a gap of 37 years).
It was with their seminal album ‘Paranoid’ that the band scored their last UK No.1 album back in September 1970. The album was released the day before the first ever Glastonbury Festival was held, Edward Heath was residing at No.10 Downing Street and the tragic death of Jimi Hendrix was just about to hit the headlines.

OZZY QUOTES - his reaction to the news:
On the No.1 - "I'm in shock, the success of this album has blown me off my feet. We've never had a record climb the charts so fast."
On beating Rod Stewart's chart record - "It's great! But Rod's the same as us, we've got something other people haven't got. It's all manufactured bullshit these days. But the likes of Rod, and Elton John and us have got something different. We know our craft."
On whether they'll be another Sabbath record - "I don't know either way. We're still reveling in coming back with this. There probably will be another album, but I don't want to promise anything to anyone. It took us long enough to do this, and we can't wait another 43 years to have another No 1. If it comes to pass we don't make another record, then I can rest easily knowing we finished things properly with 13"

’13’, produced by Rick Rubin and featuring Brad Wilk on drums, has seen rave reviews with the likes of the Metro heralding the album as a ‘triumphant comeback’Time Out calling it the band’s ‘best album in decades’ and Kerrang! describing the record as ‘brilliant, heavy and magical’.

This December Black Sabbath will embark on a UK tour, kicking off at London’s O2 Arena on December 10th, before taking in Belfast, Sheffield, Glasgow and Manchester followed by a return to where it all began with what is set to be an emotional homecoming show at Birmingham’s LG Arena on December 20th.
