Crush Interview Trio Penthouse Penthouse + Bobby Saint

We're not sure how Preston James, Mike Parvizi (Penthouse Penthouse) and Bobby Saint all came to know and work with each other but we're certainly glad that they did.

The collaborative trio have been working together and recently released their EP 'Upload'.

We asked them a few questions about where they eat, drink and get their music in LA. Catch their live performance at Low End Theory this weekend!

Where do you like to eat in LA? What do you normally order?

Bobby: There are a few favorites...

Valerie Confections in echo park - I always get the soft scramble with salmon

The Grilled Cheese Truck - The grilled cheese with pulled pork is amazing

Takuma's Burgers (street burger specialist echo park): the #3

However, of late - just been having more dinner parties with friends... putting down that cooking yo!

PHPH:

Tacos Revolucionarios is a spot in the neighborhood – it’s run by this dude Zadi who is from Algeria; he blends all types of cooking together into a fusion of different cultures. His wife is Korean and makes all these crazy smoked meats and kimchi to garnish the food with. You can also eat vegetarian there very easily… it’s so good, some of the best tacos ever. Shouts to Chef Zadi, we love you bro.

El Flamin’ Taco is also a chain of trucks around LA. When we were broke we would go there and pull our money together with Promnite and buy the carne fries to share.

Dino’s Chicken is also a favorite. We’re just into little neighborhood joints.

What is your favorite bar in LA? What's your drink? (if booze is not on the table, coffee or juice is also cool!)

Bobby: Piano bar - Amazing people & good music. Being an island man, I love rum. My favorites being Ron Zacapa and Mount Gay, Extra Old

PHPH:

The Short Stop & Little Joy are fun. We go there & play pool sometimes with Bobby Saint.

Dog Haus in Pasadena is also a favorite - it’s a burger and dog joint but they have a bar and they also have boardgames and an outdoor seating area. We both really love chill places where there’s no pressure & nobody is trying to act cool or outspend one another.

The Airliner is also a good hang - it’s where Low End Theory takes place.

As far as other drinks are concerned - we love Espresso on Ice.

If you wanted to spend zero dollars, how would you spend one day in LA?

Bobby: Hit the beach and read stacks of Kingdom Manga

PHPH:

STAY IN BED. Or, ride your bike to the expo line and take it to Santa Monica for a ride down the coastal bike trails. Super fun. Technically you’d be spending $3.50 on the metro though, but LA’s outdoor gems are often slept on. Get outside and walk around and you are bound to see some beautiful art, people and cars… enjoy yourself.

Where did you buy your last record? What record was it and why did you select it?

Bobby: Atomic Records – I bought a vinyl jazz album by David Liebman called "What It Is." I actually picked it up because I really loved the artwork.

PHPH: Low End Theory – we saw our friend Goodnight Cody perform and picked up a copy of his album Goodnight Cody – “Warm as the Sunlight, Wide as the Moon” a couple months ago.

If you could collaborate with any other artist (dead or alive), who would it be and why?

Bobby: This is a question that keeps coming around over the years, but the truth is I'm grateful for all creative blessings.

PHPH: Mr. Oizo. He is just a genius on so many levels. Also Kevin Parker from Tame Impala – he is a next level human & musician.
