Elton John planning to wed after gay marriage is legalised in the UK

Elton John and his partner David Furnish are planning to tie the knot now that same-sex marriage has been legalised in the UK.

Same-sex marriages were made legal in the UK on Friday (March 28) at midnight.

David Furnish revealed his and the ‘Rocket Man’ star’s plans to get married in a column for Attitude magazine’s Love and Marriage issue.

51-year-old Furnish wrote: “Elton and I will marry – as a high-profile couple, we feel it is our duty to do it, to make sure that everyone knows that this is something that many gay men living in this country never dreamed would happen.”

He continued: “Elton and I both think there is a massive difference between calling someone your 'partner' and calling them your 'husband'. ‘Partner' is such an impersonal word and doesn't adequately describe the love we have for each other.”

Elton John and David Furnish have been together for over 20 years, entered into a civil partnership in 2008 and have two sons – Zachary and Elijah.
