Elton John named Britain's most charitable celebrity

Sir Elton John has topped a list of British celebrities who gave the most money to charity in 2013.

The singer, who runs the Elton John Aids Foundation, contributed a total of $38.4 million (£22.8 million) to good causes over the course of the year.

The Sunday Times Giving List 2013 confirms that $22.4 million (£13.3 million) was raised by gigs for his Aids Foundation.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling is second on the list with $15 million (£8.9 million), whilst U2 singer Bono is third having generated $12.8 million (£7.6 million) for charity.

Other music names on the list include Coldplay, who gave $4.5 million (£2.7 million), and One Direction, whose Comic Relief single 'One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)' helped to create funds of $3.4 million (£2 million).
