Sir Elton John wants to meet with Putin to discuss gay rights in Russia

Sir Elton John has revealed that he wants to travel to Russia to meet with Vladimir Putin to discuss what he described as the Russian president's "ridiculous" attitude towards gay rights. 

Speaking to the BBC's diplomatic correspondent, Bridget Kendall, the music legend confessed that he would like to at least try to change Putin's mind because at least he would know he attempted to inspire positive change:

"I would like to meet [Mr Putin]. It's probably pie in the sky... He may laugh behind my back when he shuts the door, and call me an absolute idiot, but at least I can think I have the conscience to say I tried."

The 'Your Song' sensation, meanwhile, recently announced details of an Australian tour that will begin on December 5 with a show at Hope Estate in Hunter Valley. He will perform a total of 6 shows in the country and you can check out the full schedule below:

  • December 8 – Brisbane Entertainment Centre, Brisbane, QLD
  • December 11 – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne, VIC
