Elton John's annual Oscars bash raises $6.2m for AIDS foundation

Sir Elton John's annual Oscars party has raised $6.2 million (£4.4 million) for his AIDS Foundation.

The singer held the event for its 24th time at the The City of West Hollywood Park on Sunday (February 28).

The musician confirmed to the Hollywood Reporter that millions were raised on the night.

John also performed with his band at the event for the first time in nearly a decade.

He also gave out copies of his latest album 'Wonderful Crazy Night', which he told the crowd to use as "frisbees or coasters" if they were unwanted.

John said about the event: "It’s hard to believe that it’s our 24th Oscar party.

"I remember the first one very well. We raised about $300,000 and we thought we were the best thing since sliced bread."

A plethora of famous faces attended the event, including Mariah Carey, Dave Grohl, Sam Smith and The Weeknd.
