Sir Elton John was subject of 'violent' and 'mentally violent' adult bullying

Sir Elton John has revealed that he was bullied as an adult shortly after finding fame and, perhaps even more shockingly, by several "very important people" in his life.

The 'Candle In The Wind' superstar didn't name his tormentors, but explained to E! News that he suffered years of abuse and became an easy target because he was "shy and intimidated":

"It was about control and them being able to keep me under their thumb. And I was the perfect candidate for it. Even though I was famous and a big deal, it doesn't matter, it's who you are underneath that, and I was always kind of shy and intimidated."

"One was violent and the other two were mentally violent. They were very important people in my life. They were important people in my career and and in my personal life."

Sir Elton also offered some words of advice to those in a similar position and admitted that standing up for yourself is key: "Speak out, speak out. Snitch on them. Try to defend yourself, not like me, who hid it and thought it was OK to just go on like it."
