Eminem tops US album chart with second biggest debut of the year

Eminem has barged straight to the top of the US albums chart with his new effort 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2'.

The rapper sold a massive 792,000 copies of the record in its first week on sale, meaning that it is the second best selling debut of the year so far.

Only Justin Timberlake's 'The 20/20 Experience' - which shifted 968,000 units in May - has sold more copies in the first week of release in 2013.

Eminem's total is greater than expected, with industry sources believing the rapper would sell around 750,000.

'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' - the rapper's sixth US No.1 record - is also the sixth quickest selling album in the US of the last five years.

Taylor Swift's 'Red' tops that list with 1.2 million sales in its first week, with Lady Gaga's 'Born This Way' (1.1m) and Swift's 'Speak Now' (1m) the other top two sellers.

'The 20/20 Experience' is fourth in the top five whilst Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter IV' shifted 964,000 copies in its first week back in 2011.
