Florence Welch has gushed about having Blake Lively as a close friend and confidante.

The Florence + the Machine star has formed a firm friendship with Hollywood beauty Lively, and the two often meet up when they are in the same area.

Welch explained to ES magazine: “She’s been a really big support when I’m in that big, crazy Met Ball scene – having Blake there to be a partner in crime has been really lovely. She’s got such a big heart. She’s far more in the public eye than I am, and she’s a good, grounded wise person for me to get advice from.”

Welch has revealed how the pair first met and came to form such a bond.

She smiled: “I performed on Gossip Girl a couple of years ago, and she’s always been a fan. She came to my very first show in New York. She was so sweet, she even brought everyone pizza at the after-show, and we’ve been friends ever since. We both love music, and she’s a good influence. She’s very savvy, and a good American girl – she helps me with my more cynical British side.”

Florence Welch has moves like Jagger

British songstress Florence Welch gave rock god Sir Mick Jagger "a run for his money" when she took to the stage to perform alongside him recently.

The Florence + the Machine singer teamed up with The Rolling Stones to sing 'Gimme Shelter' at the second of their '50 and Counting' shows in London at the end of November.

Guitarist Keith Richards was impressed by the red-headed star's onstage presence.

He explained to NME magazine: ''I'd never met her before or seen her work, but I just went, 'Wow, there's a strong voice.' And, as it turned out, she's a hell of a performer. I mean, she gave Mick a run for his money. And she can move. Great fun, lovely girl, we'd do it again.''

The legendary band will also be joined by the likes of Lady Gaga and Bruce Springsteen when they play again this month, and Richards is proud of the interest the string of shows are gathering.

He said: ''Anything's possible now. This whole thing just seems to be gathering momentum again. So, at the moment, we've got these shows, and then you're into New Year, and I guess everybody's... Well, without saying anything, everybody's thinking.''

The Rolling Stones are currently celebrating an impressive 50 years in the music industry with the release of compilation album GRRR!

She performed in Aberdeen on Sunday night (December 9), but halted her band to address a situation that was taking place in the crowd.

In a video of the incident, which was uploaded to YouTube, Welch can be heard saying: "Excuse me, all of you, stop it. I'm sorry all of you if you're upset"

She then turns her attention to one girl in particular and asks: "Is she Ok, is she going to be alright? You alright my love?"

Florence Welch: 'I'm taking a year off to write a musical'

Flame-haired songstress Florence Welch has revealed that she plans to take her 'Machine' on hiatus so that she has time to concentrate on other projects.

The Florence + The Machine frontwoman explained that she's now 26-years-old and has been touring since the age of 21 so it'll be great to have some time to herself finally:

"I’ve been on tour since I was 21. I need a break and to have the chance to do normal things, like go to the supermarket and hang out with my friends."

“I’ve only just moved out of my mum’s house, so I’d like to settle into my new place and start getting inspired again. If I started writing songs now, all they’d be about is tour buses and hotel rooms.”

London's Evening Standard newspaper reports that she was a guest at the launch of 'Kate: The Kate Moss Book' and had taken childhood friend Sophie Hart-Walsh along, with whom she plans to write a musical and added:

"It would be amazing to get it into the West End. That’s obviously the dream goal.”

Hart-Walsh said: “We always used to write songs about our lives and sing them to each other. We always said we should make them into a musical.”

Florence Welch's dad almost had to step in to perform a Florence + the Machine gig after the band's drummer got trapped in the toilet.

The British band were almost late for a live show on BBC Radio 2 after drummer Chris Hayden became locked in the loo.

Welch explained to The Telegraph: "I didn't know whether to say it on stage because I didn't want to embarrass him, but he got trapped in the loo. He was screaming.

"He got really freaked out. We could hear him - 'Let me out' - trying to bash the door down, and they had to take the door off its hinges, so my dad did offer to stand in. But he did escape."

Welch believed there was more to the freak incident than met the eye. The flame-haired songstress continued:

"I think it's haunted - and then all the taps started running boiling. All the taps in the bathroom started running hot water. I heard all the screaming and the banging and I was like 'whaaaat?'"

Florence Welch talks anxiety-fuelled performances

Flame-haired songstress Florence Welch says her constant anxiety "fuels" her energetic stage performances.

The 'Spectrum' singer is famed for her impressive productions and confident stage presence, but always gets hit by nerves ahead of a show.

Speaking to Q magazine, Welch admitted that she tries to always put her anxiety to good use before stepping on stage.

She explained: "My daily life would be loads easier without that, but the performance would not be what I want it to be. That anxiety is almost what fuels my performances. I feel on edge before and there's calm afterwards."

Welch is growing more accustomed to her high-pressured lifestyle though, and tries not to let her anxiety affect those around her.

"I feel like I'm changing a lot every day. And in a sense I'm becoming more settled in who I am. But I'm anxious and operate on a high level of panic most of the time."

She continued: “I notice when people come to wake me up, I wake up really terrified. My manager and my PA are scared of waking me up because I react so violently.”

Florence Welch ready to take a year off

Florence Welch has revealed that she plans to take a year out of music to recharge her batteries.

Her band Florence + The Machine have been working off their 2011 album 'Ceremonials' over the past year but it seems they're about to take an extended break once the cycle is over.

Speaking to Style magazine, Welch said that there will probably be a little bit of time between now and their next record as they take a backseat for a year. The singer said:

"There's a big 'take a year off' plan. The record company have put no pressure on for the next album. They've said I can have as long as I want."

Welch meanwhile also spoke about one of her favourite hobbies - fashion watching in East London. The 'Spectrum' star said:

"I like playing hipster safari. It's like people watching, people watching, but in east London. I like walking around, looking at everyone's clothes. It's like, 'Yep, I used to go to college with them. Yep there's that fashion blogger wearing a snazzy Outfit'. You have a list and tick the east London cliches off as you go."

'Spectrum' songstress Florence Welch has promised to bring the theatrics to her upcoming sets at this weekend's Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Speaking to the NME magazine about her impending performances at both events she explained that her intention is "to mix really modern technology with an old romance" while on stage:

"I think we definitely want to try and bring the visual aspects of this album. We're trying to mix really modern technology with an old romance. So I'm obsessed with textiles and stained glass and it's important to bring that aesthetic."

"We were looking at a lot of Erte and Klimt and art deco artists for this album so we're using technology in order to bring these old references."

Welch also revealed that she's excited to check out the other acts involved in this year's line up and is especially looking forward to The Cure: "It's a strong line-up. They're all massive bands and it seems like a wide spread."

"I would really like to see The Cure play. I found loads of picture of me from when I was 11, me in my school uniform with a little pale moonface and dyed black hair."

Florence Welch describes performing live as 'transcendental'

Ethereal songstress Florence Welch has revealed that she 'comes back to herself' during live concerts.

The 'Spectrum' hitmaker, who is currently touring the USA in support of her album 'Ceremonials', explained to Absolute Punk that performing is "cathartic" and it makes her feel powerful:

"I feel like I suddenly come back to myself on stage. During the songs, you transcend yourself. The best way to be in the performance is to be without pause and be essentially in the moment, in that moment of expression."

"I always find it's really cathartic and it's almost like an exorcism, but then zip, I'm always just back to myself. I think I should get a bigger between-the-song persona, so then I'm not wandering around the stage like some mad old auntie that's saying hello to people and falling over."

When asked about her plans for a third record, Welch admitted that she's managed to define her sound so working on new music is an exciting prospect:

"I'm excited for the third record. It's been a grueling couple of years, but I'm glad I got the second one out because it was ready and it did feel ready. It felt like a sequel almost to 'Lungs' that needed to come out for me to let people know what I was about. 'Lung's, for better or worse, was maybe a slightly confused record."

"That was the good and bad thing about it, it was more like a scrapbook. With 'Ceremonials', it was as if I had averted the sound. I pinned it down and controlled it. Now it feels good because it feels like there’s a lot of options right now."
