George Michael's Ex-Publicist on the Singer's Sense of Humor

George Michael's former publicist Gary Farrow has opened up about the late singer and his strong sense of humor.

Farrow, who worked with the singer during the Wham! days as the band's media manager, said Michael was one of the "funniest" people he knew. The singer passed away on Christmas Day aged 53 after suffering heart failure.

Speaking to The Sun about his memories of the music icon, Farrow said Michael joined Frankie Goes To Hollywood on stage at their first gig - despite being told to only watch the show in a low-key manner.

The publicist said: "He was one of the funniest people I knew. He built up this serious persona to protect himself. He always took the mickey out of himself. We nicknamed him the Bubble, as in rhyming slang for Greek Bubble and Squeak.

"I remember going up to see Frankie Goes To Hollywood, who were one of my acts as well, play their very first gig and George ordered a stretch car. I said to him ‘stay in the car and when the lights come down I will come and get you and we will stand at the back by the mixing desk’ because people would have gone mental for him.

"So he said ‘yeah, alright’ and once the lights went down I sent the bodyguard to go fetch him. The bodyguard came back and told me ‘I can’t find him.’ I said ‘What do you mean?’ The next thing I knew the lights went up on stage and George is up their with Frankie singing 'Relax'.

"Once on the way home from a gig, we had a stretch car again and I had to drop him off to his mum’s house. We stopped in a petrol station to get some chewing gum and water. As some people went by the car the window went down and George was violently sick out of it. It was a classic."

Connie Filippello, George Michael's publicist since Wham!, made the official announcement about the star's death on Christmas Day.
