Glee cast won't be touring in 2012

The cast of Glee have been given the summer off after it was announced their annual tour is to be scrapped this year.

The hit musical drama, currently half-way through its third series, played only ten shows across four cities in 2010, but went onto gross over $40 million during their 40-date arena tour of USA, Canada and the UK in 2011, becoming the 16th most successful concert of the year.

But a spokesman for Glee studio, 20th Television, told The Hollywood Reporter: "We currently have no plans of touring the cast this summer."

Instead, the cast are expected to perform at a one-off benefit concert at the Hollywood Bowl in an effort to raise funds for their Give Glee A Note arts education charity.

The news comes just days after Tuesday’s Valentine’s Day episode became the second lowest-rated of the current series in the US, fuelling speculation about the future of the show.
