Cory Monteith's father on his death: "It’s just ripping my insides out and tearing me apart"

'Glee' star Cory Monteith's estranged father has spoken out about the tragic and untimely death of his son, describing the experience of losing him as heartbreaking.

The actor was found dead in a Canadian hotel room back in July and toxicology reports have since confirmed that he passed away from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol.

Joe Monteith told People magazine that although he only met up with him 2 years ago after not seeing him for over a decade, he believed he was off drugs and seemed happy so his death was an incredible shock:

"It’s just ripping my insides out and tearing me apart. He got a shot to his heart to bring him back, and he was told at that time to use no drugs of any kind because you had your one shot."

Joe, 63, added that he met up with Monteith in 2011 and was told by him that he was clean: "He said: 'I wont go there ever again. I'm enjoying myself.' I lost my son. He should have known not to touch that drug again. I don't want to see any parent lose a child over heroin."

The Cory Monteith tribute episode of 'Glee' aired last night (October 10) in the USA and the star's cast mates along with the programme's creator and producers all paid tribute to him after the broadcast.
