Green Day enter the UK album charts straight in at No. 1

Green Day have stormed to the top of the UK album charts, while the Black Eyed Peas have scored a TransAtlantic double on the nation's singles chart.

The pop-punk trio's '21st Century Breakdown' knocked Bob Dylan's 'Together Through Life' off the top of of the charts and led a sales surge. 

Green Day's new release had just two days to make its mark - the album was released around the world on Friday (15 May 09). '21st Century Breakdown' is expected to claim the top spot in America on Wednesday (20 May 09). Lily Allen's 'It's Not Me, It's You' claims the number two spot in the UK and Lady Gaga's 'The Fame' comes in third, ahead of the Prodigy's 'Invaders Must Die' and 'Funhouse' by Pink. Dylan's latest album drops to eight. 

Meanwhile, the Black Eyed Peas' punchy 'Boom Boom Pow,' which has been number one in America for five weeks, debuted at the top of the singles chart, ahead of Tinchy Stryder's Number 1, which topped the charts last week, and 'In For The Kill' by La Roux. Eminem's 'We Made You' and 'Not Fair' by Lily Allen round out the new top five.
