Green Day singer joins Christina Aguilera as The Voice guest mentor

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has been confirmed as a guest mentor on the US version of The Voice.

The punk-rock star will help out Christina Aguilera's team of vocalists on the show's third series.

The Associated Press reports that Armstrong said in a statement that his family were fans of the programme and that The Voice is "not moulding artists, it's just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover."

Armstrong is the latest name to crop up in the US TV talent show stakes after Mariah Carey was confirmed to judge on American Idol.

Carey will fill one of the seats left by Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, who both left the show in recent weeks.
