Green Day cancel remaining 2012 shows

Green Day have pulled the plug on every remaining show they were due to play this year.

The punk rock trio were rocked by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong's admission to rehab in September after an onstage meltdown.

The 'Dookie' stars were due to play nine shows in the US over the next couple of months but they have now been cancelled due to Armstrong's rehab stint.

They have also postponed a host of gigs that were scheduled next year from January 7 to February 8 inclusive with a view to rescheduling.

The band, however, have pushed forward the release one of their new albums '¡Tré!' - the third part of their trilogy - by a month to December 10.

In a statement, bassist Mike Dirnt said: "Obviously the timing for this isn't ideal, but Billie Joe's well-being is our main concern. We are happy to say that Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you all for the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can't wait to see you all again soon."

As previously reported, Billie Joe Armstrong suffered a fit of rage whilst on stage at an iHeart event in September after it appeared Green Day's set was cut - with the singer smashing his guitar and storming off stage at the Las Vegas event.

He was later admitted to rehab for substance abuse.
