Gwen Stefani on marriage split: 'I had a period of real anger'

Superstar Gwen Stefani has revealed that when she first split from husband Gavin Rossdale, she experienced a period of raw emotion and anger.

She told Vanity Fair that writing 'I Used To Love You' proved to be really cathartic and helped her to come to terms with the breakdown of their 13-year marriage: "I went through a real period of anger, but I felt like this song was almost like a forgiveness song. It's admitting, I used to love you and now I don't."

Stefani then went onto add that she was worried about recording her new album, entitled 'This Is What The Truth Feels Like', and wondered if people would be excited about new solo material: "I was so scared and insecure and thought it was over for me. I think the hardest thing I did was to get out of bed and go to the studio."

Referring to her new romance with fellow 'The Voice' mentor Blake Shelton, she confessed that it has given her a new lease of life: "I feel like I'm in an amazing songwriting place; instead of being closed off, I'm thinking about positivity and how I can do something creative. I'm just doing what I want to do. It's so incredible to be in that zone. I'm always looking for the next song, and now I don't have to be insecure or write about heartache."
