Gwen Stefani won the Hero Award at the 2016 Radio Disney Music Awards yesterday (May 1).

Receiving the award from Pharrell, she turned to him and said: 

"Let's just get this straight, right here. This is one of my heros, right here!"

Addressing the audience which included her partner, Blake Shelton, she said:

"First of all, you have to undesrstand something about this, this is very strange because I literally grew up in Anaheim, California.

"I grew up right next to Disneyland, right next to it! So, for me to have anything like this happening, is just surreal.

"I can just remember back and being 'Dad, please can I have $5 so that I can have a microphone and go to rehearsal,' and the fact that it's come this far ... This is crazy that this is happening to me because I never thought in my whole life that I'd make a difference, so I'm so honoured to be here.

"I'm so happy to be making music. I'm so blessed to make music and share it with you, and to receive your love back. I am so healed by you so thank you so much."

Stefani took to the stage again at the Awards to perform her solo hit 'Make Me Like You.'

The 2016 Radio Disney Music Awards took place in Los Angeles and featured performances by Ariana Grande, DNCE and Justin Bieber.
