Travie McCoy has given ex-girlfriend Katy Perry his support as she deals with dissolution of her marriage to Russell Brand.

The Gym Class Heroes star dated Perry in 2008 and told the Daily Mirror that there will "always be a connection" between the pair due to the relationship they had together.

And he offered her his support if she needs it as she deals with the fallout of her separation. He said:

"There will always be a connection between us. I'll always be there for her. When you've been in a relationship like ours, you will always make time for that person."

He also moved to defend Perry against accusations that her and Brand tied the knot too quickly. He added:

"Katy was there for me through my hard times when things were really bad. Life goes on. I have regrets about the way we ended. But there are no grudges any more between us. I'll always be there for her, she knows that. Do I think she got married to Russell too fast? When you're feeling it, you're feeling it. You can't help how you feel."
