Jennifer Lopez has new species of water mite named after her

Scientists have named a new species of water mite after Jennifer Lopez.

Biologists found the creature whilst recently working in Puerto Rico and they decided to call the species after the singer because she had been soundtracking their stay.

University of Montenegro researcher Vladimir Pesic commented:

"The reason behind the unusual choice of name for the new species is simple: J Lo's songs and videos kept the team in a continuous good mood when writing the manuscript and watching World Cup Soccer 2014."

The mite was found on a coral reef in Mona Passage, which separates Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

The new species was found at a depth of nearly 70m (230ft).

A scientific discovery being named after a celebrity isn't new, with Bono providing the inspiration for a spider last year.
