JLo's 'The Boy Next Door' movie causes surge in searches for first editions of Homer's 'The Iliad'

Jennifer Lopez's latest movie, 'The Boy Next Door', has caused a surge in searches for first editions of Homer's 'The Iliad' after her character is given a copy of the legendary text in the film.

AbeBooks, which is an American online book store that specialises in rare editions and early copies, has reported that "The Iliad, first edition" has been the top search term since the film was released in the U.S. on January 23.

In 'The Boy Next Door,' Lopez is given a copy of The Iliad by leading man Ryan Guzman's character, which is described as a “first edition” and was apparently found for “a buck at a garage sale.”

Lopez opened up to Ryan Seacrest about deciding to be involved in the film and confessed that she related to the role she was asked to play: "When I read the script, I liked the character because I felt it was very related. She’s a woman in a long marriage, her husband just cheated on her, and she’s kind of at the lowest point in her life. She’s at that moment and then this guy comes along — the boy next door shows up — and starts making her feel like she is worth something.”

“That she is desirable in some way and reminds her because she’s feeling the total opposite in that moment. And then of course, [she] makes a mistake and crosses the line and it changes their lives forever. But I really did love [how] she’s strong, but she’s vulnerable at the same time.”
