Jennifer Lopez says she has been building up to a Las Vegas residency for years.

The singer will open her first run of shows in the city from January 20 at Planet Hollywood.

Speaking to Billboard, the US star said the show will be a cross-section of her musical palette.

Lopez said: "I’m excited about it. You know, I feel like I’ve been preparing for this my whole life.

"[It's] all of the different things I have done musically, and performing on stage and award shows, and touring."

The singer and actress added: "It’s really an exciting prospect for me to create the quintessential Jennifer Lopez experience in Vegas.

"It’s just an opportunity that is overwhelming and at the same time the most exciting thing that has happened to me in a long time, so I’m giving it all I have."
