Jennifer Lopez slammed for 'heavy girl' American Idol comment

The final season of American Idol kicked off this week and featured a performance by a Bosnian refugee who lost 150lbs in order to take part in the show.

Lindita was once extremely overweight and with a lovely voice, so she lost weight by dieting and working out. Her partner is her former personal trainer. She is also now a personal trainer, so that she can help others with their transformations.

However, as soon as she started to sing James Brown's 'It's A Man's World', Jennifer Lopez turned to Harry Connick JR and said: "She sings like a heavy girl".

Connick JR agreed and replied: "She didn't lose THAT part".

Perhaps it was meant as a compliment, meaning that she has such a large voice that she sings like a powerful diva, but regardless, viewers took to Twitter to slam Lopez's comments. One tweeted:

"Thank you Jennifer Lopez for reminding me why I stopped watching American Idol", with another adding: "How does a 'heavy girl' sing @JLo ?!?! Very disappointed."

The 26-year-old still made it through to the next round.

American Idol is now in it's final and fifteenth series. It has produced stars such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert.
