Jessie J reflects on her previous album: "I was very busy when I should have been doing promo"

On the eve of the release of her new album, Jessie J has been talking about her previous LP titled ‘Alive’.

2013’s ‘Alive’ was Jessie J’s second record but despite peaking at No. 3 on the UK charts it did not meet the commercial merits of her debut album, ‘Who You Are’ which reached No. 2 and spawned two No. 1 singles.

When asked by Digital Spy why “the public didn't connect as much with ‘Alive’” Jessie J responded:

“I don't think I had enough time. I was on 'The Voice' and I was very busy during the time when I should have been doing promo. I didn't have time to work it as hard as I have, you know, on the first album or this album. And now, even doing this album, it's made me realise how little I did on the second album. Everything's about timing. You can't always be on top all the time. Don't quote me on that!”

The ‘Bang Bang’ singer also revealed that she altered her singing style on ‘Alive’:

“I definitely feel like I tried to soften myself on the second album and listening back to it now - I love the album, I think it's really good still - but I just don't think there's enough soul in it and I wanted to get that back. It hasn't gone anywhere, I was just told to, you know... Well, not told, but the feeling was that I should maybe try and sing a little softer.”

Jessie J’s ‘Sweet Talker’ is released in the UK tomorrow (October 13).
