Justin Bieber surprised fans today (February 21) by posting online a video of his mother recording vocals.

The singer has a strong bond with his 37-year-old mum Pattie Mallette and it seems he has encouraged her to try out singing.

The 19-year-old uploaded a short video of his mother recording vocals in a studio, adding:

"Got my moms courage enough to get in the booth for the first time she sounds so good :)."

It is unclear, however, what project Mallette is contributing to or whether it is all just for fun.

Bieber meanwhile is keeping a low profile before two separate criminal cases are heard in court in March.

He will face driving and substance charges, as well as a charge of allegedly assaulting a limo driver.
